About Us

Incorporated in 2001 by a group of local community leaders, the Belfast Community Network (BCN) is now well established within Belfast and more recently a project in neighbouring Northcote/Redwood where Neighbourhood Links has been established.

We aim to provide programmes, events and connection for local residents. We plan these by talking to our community and providing the best we can with the resources available. We encourage our local groups to work together to provide support in their own wonderfully unique way, to ensure we are doing everything we can that’s ‘Best for Belfast!'

OUR PURPOSE: Serving the Belfast Community through supporting growth, connection and community development.

OUR KEY OBJECTIVES:

  1. OUR PEOPLE: To provide support and create opportunities for community members to connect in ways that enhances wellbeing.

  2. OUR ACTIVITIES: To deliver activities & programmes that are relevant and meet community needs in ways that are meaningful for them.

  3. OUR FACILITY: To provide a welcoming place for people to gather, connect around shared interests and access support.

  4. OUR PARTNERSHIPS: To collaborate with others to strengthen community resilience and wellbeing.

  5. OUR ORGANISATION: To enhance organisational systems and resources to ensure our services are sustainable, accessible and valuable for our community

Belfast Active Senior Support (BASS)

BASS supports many elderly residents of our community. We run several programmes as well as one on one support.

Weekly Shopping

We offer a service for essential shopping for elderly from the Belfast area.  We pick up from home at 9.30am and take people to shop for essential items like groceries or chemist supplies. We sometimes stope for a cuppa and then drop off back home by 12.30pm. Bookings are essential, and a donation of $5 is appreciated to cover costs.

Kai on Sheldon

Every Thursday during the school term from 11am in our hall, our staff and lovely volunteers cook a meal for our community. The hot meals are different every week and use a variety of fresh healthy food. We have updated our prices for 2024:

$3 per person or $5 per couple for a one course meal

Our special occasion meals such as Matariki, the last meal each term and Christmas will be:

$5 per person or $8 per couple for a two course meal

This gathering is open for anyone to attend and occasionally there are also afternoon activities including crafts, games or a speaker.

Holiday Outings

Our group enjoying Margret Mahy Park, Christchurch

Once a term we go on an outing. The usual cost is $10 – $15 and includes lunch and transport. Please get in touch with Debbie 022 639 2428, for more information.

Foot Clinic

The lovely Sarah from Toe Toe Footcare is a registered nurse and will look after your feet. General check up and nail trimming. $40 per session, and bookings essential. This clinic is held at BCN once a month on a Thursday. If you are a Belfast resident, we currently have funding available to subsidise the cost down to $10 per session.

KĀ PŪTAHI YOUTH

AN EXCITING PROGRAMME FOR YEAR 7 TO YEAR 9's

After hearing from young people and whānau that they were keen for more things to do in Belfast we have launched Kā Pūtahi Youth. Kā Pūtahi is the Ngāi Tahu name for the area of Belfast. It also means to converge or connect together and references the many waterways around our area. We have partnered with Kia Kori Waitaha - a community play initiative in the Northwest area, and Adventure Specialties Trust, a certified outdoor adventure provider.

We recognise that the current environment can be very challenging for our rangatahi. Kā Pūtahi Youth is based on the principles of the Circle of Courage/Circle of Mana model - which shows that to experience wellbeing a child needs a sense of belonging, independence, generosity and mastery.  Kā Pūtahi Youth will be run in the school holidays for local year 7 to year 9 young people. We now have funding to offer this programme on a regular basis.

Please email ops@belfastcommunitynetwork.org.nz for more information.
