About Christchurch Central Service (CCS)

What we do

A key role of this CCS is to facilitate access to the Canterbury AOD treatment services. We can provide services over the phone or walk in.

CCS is a screening, coordination and resource centre for Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) issues. The service provides screening and assessment to help link the person in with the appropriate AOD service.

This includes access to Residential services, Day Programs, Individual Counselling and Group Work. The service has social workers, AOD counselors, nurses, peer support workers and psychologist on the team.

CCS is overseen by an advisory group made up of CDHB fund Alcohol and Other Drug Services. The current membership of the Christchurch Central Service Advisory group includes:

  • Senior leaders of Christchurch Central Service treatment providers including :

    • Odyssey House Christchurch

  • Short term 1:1 counselling (brief intervention)

  • Self-help information

  • Support/education groups

  • Peer support

  • Detox options

  • Intensive treatment options

  • Methadone and Opioid Substitution Treatment (OST)

Information and resources are available for families and professionals
Self referrals accepted via telephone and email
Referrals accepted from GPs and other community agencies via post, fax and email

Peer Support

Linking people with treatment and support options

  • We walk alongside people role-modeling recovery, using our lived experience as a motivating factor.

  • We have used addiction services in the past, and will work with you to find the kind of support that best suits your needs.

  • We share our experience on how we have managed to break the cycle of addiction.

There are quite a variety of treatment programmes and support groups – who best to explain them than the people who have used them themselves. We offer hope and support in identifying your strengths to set and achieve your goals.

Helping people move toward a productive and fulfilling life.
